This collaborative effort between the Engineering Dept and Medical School examines factors contributing to childhood
diarrhea in Tanzania. My responsibilities include protocol development for quantifying water
quality, developing a water monitoring laboratory, and training African
collaborators in research methods.
2006 Medical

School.
Conducted a quality assessment
of 54 water sources in 22 villages. Assessed population health and treated
patients with a medical team. Conducted a water quality training seminar for
100 local healthworkers. This work is anticipated to be published in the Journal
of Water and Health.

Developed gene expression profiles of gastric tumors, to developing a
prognostic tool and further characterize molecular mechanisms underlying
carcinogenesis.

Interviewed 58 women in the Selska Valley, Slovenia, for the
first study characterizing age and symptoms of menopause for women living in
small mountain villages in Eastern Europe. Published in

2006-2007 Molecular
Foundations of Medicine.
A required class for first year medical students.
Responsibilities included presenting four literature review sessions, teaching
review sessions, and test development and grading.
2006-2007 Physicians
for Human Rights.
This course is an elective lecture series for medical
students that studies health and human rights. Responsibilities include
recruiting speakers and developing the course and administrative
responsibilities.

In
addition to organizing the Jan-March health and human rights lecture series,
Stanford PHR has organized several events, including a film series and a
Doctors Without Borders dinner event. Stanford PHR has facilitated
representatives to 4 conferences this year that focus on social justice issues.

for International Health
My
role is to develop connections and information for students interested in going
abroad for summer project. In addition, I develop cross-departmental projects
that would benefit from the input of physicians.
2006 Supplies Chair Pacific
Free Clinic (PFC) Steering Committee
PFC
is a weekly student-run clinic in East San Jose that provides services
to over 1,000 patients a year with low-income, no insurance, and/or low English
proficiency. My position entails opening and closing the clinic, and
coordinating up to 20 volunteers which include physicians and medical students.
I also purchase and track medical supplies, and seek out drug donation programs
from community resources, physician donors, and pharmaceutical companies.
